Fórmulas de estimación del filtrado glomerular en la insuficiencia renal crónica. Ventajas y desventajas en ancianos

Resumen

En esta revisión se presentan las fórmulas matemáticas más usadas para estimar el filtrado glomerular que han emergido en las últimas décadas con sus ventajas y desventajas en los ancianos, se refieren las bases para el diagnóstico de la insuficiencia renal crónica, sus particularidades y epidemiología en este grupo poblacional. Se concluye que determinar la  progresión de la insuficiencia renal crónica y su implicación clínica particularmente en los ancianos genera considerable interés en la nefrología clínica actual, finalmente  se recomienda  no solo tener en cuenta la caída del filtrado glomerular como criterio diagnóstico de insuficiencia renal crónica en ancianos sanos sin otras manifestaciones propias de dicha enfermedad, sino realizar una valoración clínica y humoral integral del paciente para descartar la hipofiltración senil. Se requieren de más estudios clínicos controlados aliatorizados y validados en ancianos.
